Behind The Shoot: Selinna Ellsworth

Interview With The Lash Vamp: Creator Series III Reading Behind The Shoot: Selinna Ellsworth 3 minutes

You're probably as stunned as we are with the new visuals on our website. We did a Q&A with our friend, the Creative Director of our Glitch and Mosspit Launch, @selinnakapu, to get the details of how she got here.

TLR: How long have you been crafting your own photoshoot sets?
Selinna: I’m pretty new when it comes to photography. I took a class back in high school but I didn’t learn too much from the class. I started my creative photoshoots back in January 2024. I was reading a lot of fantasy books and was inspired to create a photoshoot that incorporate lashes and faeries.

TLR: What were some learning curves you experienced over time doing photoshoots like this?
Selinna: Some learning curves that I experienced over the years was editing and lighting. There’s so many editing tools nowadays. It’s hard to choose one that’s user friendly and doesn’t have filters. It’s not to create your own presets (go to edits.) Lighting was something I learn online but best learned by trial and error. Light is very delicate and sets the overall mood and tone for each photo.

TLR: What's your favorite part - hair, make up, lashing, set design, wardrobe, photography?
Selinna: Gosh! This is a really hard question but also easy. Taking the photos is my favorite part because all the little favorite things in each craft comes together and meets for one photo. That photo just lights up my world because I get to see what I’ve created.

TLR: What is your least favorite part?
Selinna: Figuring out my setting in my camera to accommodate the environment we’re taking photos in. Learning my camera is something that seems to be a continual growing process for me.

TLR: What kind of music do you like to listen to while shooting the photos?
Selinna: I usually like my model to choose the music so they can get pumped or I’ll put something on to match the theme so my model can get into character. Modeling is an art within itself. It’s not just posing. It’s acting and knowing your body. It’s very impressive to me and I have a lot of respect for it.

TLR: What was the main difference between shooting Glitch vs Mosspit?
Selinna: This is a great question. The color and mood contrast. These two things set the overall vibe for each shoot. Which both give wildly different feels.

TLR: What are some must-have items that you use for every photoshoot?
Selinna: Lights. I have many lights but this might be because I’m still learning my camera setting so I’m over compensating. I’m still learning and growing. There’s always room for progress.

TLR: If someone wants to get into creative direction working for brands, what steps would you suggest they take?
Selinna: If someone wants to collaborate with a brand. I would start off with your own portfolio. Start doing what interests you. When you do what you love it shines through and people can feel it. From there go meet people if they aren’t already reaching out. Like attracts like.
